Have you ever wondered why there is no plastic recycling at BYU? In the past, people have tried to get this changed. We’ve seen countless petitions. We’ve heard groups advocate bottle recycling. And yet, the problem remains. What else can we do? Is there some way we can show that we, as students, really do want bottle recycling? We decided that the best thing to do is to make a statement through our actions. As students we must work to show that we want bottle recycling and are willing to manage it ourselves. This semester we are going to keep track of the number of bottles collected so that we can show that students do consider bottle recycling important and want to see it here on campus. As concerned students from various organizations, we are now working to offer locations for students to bring their plastic bottles to campus and know that they are being recycled. We currently have a single bin up in the Wilk but keep an eye out for additional bins around campus that will hopefully be up shortly! I don’t know about you, but I am really excited by the positive response we’ve had so far! A lot of people are really excited to see that we are working to make a difference! If you are interested in getting involved please e-mail me at macrae@byurecycles.org. Or, just drop by one of our meetings on Tuesdays at 7:15 in 285 SWKT! We would love to have your help!Happy recycling! Macrae
